Over 2000 athletes to compete in National Invitational Students Athletics Championship (NISAC)

Over 2000 athletes from 57 second cycle institutions will compete in this year’s National Invitational Students Athletics Championship (NISAC) scheduled for February 24 to 28 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

The competition, which is to test-run the University of Ghana athletics facility’s readiness for the African Games is a talent identification and development project for Senior High Schools organized by the Ghana Athletics Association, in collaboration with Citi TV.

High-performing student athletes who excel apart from medals and prizes available will be drafted into the junior national teams for various development programs and international competitions.

The NISAC offers Ghana Athletics a platform to unearth talents for development and for individual young student athletes to represent their alma mater proudly and showcase the school that played a pivotal role in shaping who they are today.

President of Ghana Athletics, Mr. Bawah Fuseini has expressed the federations’ readiness towards the hosting of the event for the first time in Accra and says it will also confirm how ready Ghana is for the Africa Games in terms of facilities.

“Athletics is the mother of all sports and loved by all. Athletics at the school level is the sports haven and it is why we are excited to be doing this every year to prepare the next generation of top talents,” he said.

He extended appreciation to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, CITI TV, Ghana Gas, the GA board and other bodies who have supported in making the competition possible.

Mr. Andrew Agbokitcher, Vice President of Ghana Athletics who is a figure in this relationship has said, this is a dream come true and all stakeholders anticipate a great championship at this year’s NISAC event.

This four-day invitational school athletics competition will witness on Sunday.

The National Invitational School’s Athletics Championships is an initiative by Ghana Athletics, with support from the Ghana Education Service (GES) and powered by Citi TV. It is sponsored by Ghana National Gas Company Limited (Ghana Gas).
